How the price is calculated
Each session has a starting price that covers the smallest version (one hour, two people, one headshot) and a rate for each extra hour or person. Add-ons are flat prices on top. These are the sample rates in the calculator:
- Portrait session: $250 for the first hour, $150 each extra hour (2 hours: $400)
- Family session: $325 for two people, $20 each extra person (4 people: $365)
- Headshots: $175 for one person, $125 each extra person (5 people: $675)
- Event coverage: $500 for two hours, $200 each extra hour (4 hours: $900)
- Wedding coverage: $2,200 for four hours, $250 each extra hour (8 hours: $3,200)
- Mini session: $150 for 20 minutes, $15 each extra person
The calculator shows a range around the total, because travel, location fees and season move the final number.
Why a session takes more than the shoot
A one-hour portrait session is closer to four or five hours of work: emails, planning, travel, the shoot, culling, editing and delivery. Price the whole thing, not the hour behind the camera. Read how to price photography packages for the full method, starting from your cost of doing business.
The add-ons are where the average sale grows
Extra edited images ($75 for 10), rush delivery ($100), a print package ($120), a 24x36 canvas ($325), a fine art album ($450 to $900), a second shooter ($400 to $500) and travel beyond 25 miles. A $365 family session with 10 extra images and a canvas is $765. Read how to sell prints and albums.
For photographers
The same calculator goes on your website under your gallery, with your own sessions, rates and add-ons. Inquiries arrive with the session, the add-ons and the price the client saw.
